At the George Mason University Science and Technology Campus, students go beyond the basics to tackle some of the world's most complex challenges.
Whether you're analyzing DNA in our Forensic Science Research and Training Laboratory, developing the next breakthrough in bio-engineering, or conducting research alongside faculty who are leaders in their fields, you'll find opportunities here that exist nowhere else in the region. Our specialized facilities and close-knit academic community create an environment where discovery happens daily and every student has the chance to make their mark on the future.
From undergraduate research opportunities to doctoral programs that push the boundaries of knowledge, the SciTech Campus offers an educational experience that is distinctly George Mason: innovative, inclusive, and designed to prepare you for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
An Advanced Learning Environment
Highly specialized instructional labs, testing facilities, and research spaces offer George Mason students hands-on learning in everything from kinesiology, microbiology, and forensic science, to building the next autonomous vehicle. These unique experiential learning environments, including the Forensic Science Research and Training Laboratory, nutrition labs, and the Nanofabrication Facility, are unlike anything else available in the region, and give our students an unprecedented advantage when they enter the job market. With on-campus graduate housing and shuttle transportation available to the Fairfax Campus and Mason Square, the SciTech Campus provides a place to live and learn while remaining connected to the region.
Pathways to Healthcare Professions
The SciTech campus is home to two unique programs providing students with pathways towards careers in healthcare.
GeorgeSquared Advanced Biomedical Sciences Program
The GeorgeSquared Advanced Biomedical Sciences Program is a collaboration between George Mason and Georgetown University Medical Center, offering a nine-month pre-health preparatory, graduate-level program designed to help qualify students for medical, dental, or other health professional schools.
Enlisted to Medical Degree Preparatory Program
The Pre-Medical Undergraduate Certificate is a premium program offered to enlisted members of the U.S. military who are chosen specifically from a federal program referred to as EMDP2 (Enlisted to Medical Degree Preparatory Program). This is a post-baccalaureate program aimed at active duty military enlisted members who are interested in matriculating at the Uniformed Services University (military medical school) or another US accredited medical school.
Home to Impactful Research
Since day one, the research conducted at the SciTech Campus has sought to address the world’s most pressing problems, from eradicating viral plagues to creating new medical therapeutics. These advances don’t just stay in the lab: once patented, these pharmaceuticals, therapeutics, medical testing technologies, and more enter the general market with the potential to help millions of people in the United States and beyond. From fabricating specialized equipment for NASA space missions to breakthroughs in cancer treatments, the research happening at the SciTech Campus changes lives and advances technology and discovery.
Grand Challenge Initiative
To ensure future generations can pursue lives worth living, George Mason has launched the Grand Challenge Initiative, a comprehensive research framework, backed by an initial five-year, $15 million investment, to align university resources, faculty expertise, and educational programs around six interconnected solution areas addressing humanity’s ultimate grand challenge.
